Cooking Spray?
Discussion Actions
Has anyone found a gluten-free, soy free, dairy free cooking spray? The coconut oil I have is not working effectively for frying and making waffles etc. I love the taste of coconut oil and cooking with an olive oil spray for waffles and some other foods doesn’t appeal to me.

Hey Tiff-the coconut oil has a great flavor, but trying to get it spread evenly on a Belgium style waffle maker is not easy like a spray so it was a mess to get out. I can use it ok for pan cooking, but was hoping for some kind of spray for my waffle maker. Maybe a spray with soy lecithin would be ok since it would be so little. I’m finding just having a piece or two of sugar free candy that has that ingredient in it, causes me to have bloating. I’m wondering if that’s a fluke or if I’m truly that sensitive to soy lecithin?
I will say the pancake/waffle mix you suggested is REALLY tasty. I just basically had it all in pieces so didn’t have to cut it up-ha!

Yes… I love the “Craving’s Place” mix.
The oil dilemma: You can either melt a little of the coconut oil and then pour it on the griddle, or you can get some grapeseed or safflower oil, put it into a spray bottle (get these at any drug store) and spray away!! Just store it in the fridge when not using.
Soy lecithin: I have a suspicion it was probably the sugar alcohols in the sugar free candy that caused the bloating and not the soy lec. But you could try an experiment and consume something else (like the spray oil) with soy lec and see what happens.
Its great to get your posts here Brenda!

Thanks Tif!
I thought about the spray bottle idea. That is a good idea. I think that will work better for a waffle iron then melting the coc. oil. That is also interesting about the sugar alcohols. I’ve never had a problem with these sugar free candies (Lifesavers) before until I cut out my allergans (coincidence?).
Thanks for your time and response. :)

When you cut out the allergens you free up the liver to respond more readily to other toxins such as artificial sweeteners..
Good news is that your body is becoming much more fit and responsive “inside.”
You will be discovering more and more things like this. It is actually quite cool!

Hi Brenda,
I’ve come across a few blogs that say Pam For Grilling High Temp Formula does not have soy in it. I haven’t tried it myself though so I don’t know for sure. What I usually do instead of using a spray is just trickle some olive oil or whatever kind I’m using on a brush and then just spread it over the grill.
Hope that helps!

Thanks for your idea, Amber. I haven’t checked out that Pam version. I did go to QFC last night and checked about 8 different spray versions. They all had soy. I bought some Safflower oil and brushed it on. It must be the gluten free aspect of the waffle mix as it still separate in two pieces and was hard to get off the iron. It’s non-stick, but I’ve never had a problem with spraying Pam before and using a regular mix. MMM…

Tif-I’ll take your word for it that my body becoming more “fit” is cool. :) I’d love anyone’s suggestions for a a small sweet treat in the evening other than fruit-my cravings are not at that point. Sounds like I need something without sugar alcohols so my Sugar-free Lifesavers and sugar-free gum are out.
Hi Brenda!!
The kind I use has some soy lecithin in it (traders joes brand).
Why is it that the coconut oil is not working??
I use it to fry, and I add just a little to the pan to make eggs and pancakes.
Warmly,
Tif
