Wheat Germ Substitute

Discussion Actions

I have a few recipes that call for wheat germ. What is a gluten-free alternative that can replace the wheat germ? I thought of oat bran but I have not actually tried it. Also other experimentation I have done with oats is that it imparts a rather heavy flavor to the food, though as I said, I have not actually tried oat bran yet. I have also considered ground flax seeds.

What would you say is a gluten-free alternative to wheat germ?

    Hi there,

try Hemp nuts/seeds. You can put them in whole (very tiny) or grind them up a bit in a coffee grinder.

Ground flax make work. Just know that if you heat them with any kind of liquid they will get very egg like… sticky. This is why they make a great substitution for eggs in vegan recipes.

Let me know how you recipes turn out!
